UPDATE: Demands, Demands, Demands...

ED. NOTE: In recognition of more "demands" made by those on earth tasked with the guardianship of the One True Church of Our Lord, Savior and King Jesus Christ, I have added the Belgian Bishop Bonny (has a nice ring to it, don't it: "Belgian-Bishop-Bonny-went-to-town, a-riding-on-his-pony, la-la-la...") to this May 2014 post at the bottom of the list at #19 (frankly, its where he belongs) in the hope that the Pope will demand...

HEY!! Maybe...just maybe...the Pope will demand he be reassigned to a certain seminary, in a certain neighboring country, known in certain circles as being full of "Self-absorbed Promethean Neo-Pelagianists" where he will enter a period of "discernment" a la the FFI!!!

(And Barack Obama will convert to Catholicism....)

(Above picture and headline from Brietbart News)

                        <SIGH>  ....  <sigh> ...   <SIGH>

Why doesn't Pope Francis instead:

1. Demand the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?

2. Demand Cardinal Kaspar keep his mouth shut and preach only Catholic Doctrine as has been taught for a millenia before Vatican II - or face Excommunication?

3. Demand the LCWR follow Church Teaching, Authority and Doctrine or face disbandment and/or disbarment - or Excommunication?

4. Demand the Society of SSPX return to Full Communion NOW - without the pre-condition of accepting Vatican II in toto?

5. Demand the enforcement of Canon 915 against any and all "devout" Catholic Politicians who openly, brazenly, publicly and proudly proclaim their support of homosexuality, abortion, sodomy, etc.?

6. Demand Cardinal Dolan stop attending the Al Smith Dinners with known enemies of the Catholic Church?

7. Demand the release of the FFI from any and all interdicts and apologize for Fr. Volpi's heavy-handiness in their suppression?

8. Demand that all Bishop's under his authority impart equally the same enforcement of the same Laws of the same Catholic Church of which he is the Supreme Head on Earth?

9. Demand the immediate moratorium on new annulment proceedings until such time as Canons 1152.1, 1152.2, 1152.3, 1153.2, 1155, 1446.2, 1676, 1695 and 1713 are strictly enforced to preserve Sacramental Marriages wherever possible?

10. Demand Cardinal Kaspar stop putting words in his mouth by saying "... he believes that 50 percent of marriages are not valid" and causing scandal to those Faithful Catholics desirous of Marriage?

11. Demand the more modest dress of the Faithful assisting at the now-OF Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, reminding them they are in the presence of Our Lord - Our King - and they should dress accordingly?

12. Demand the removal of the kiss (handshake/hug/smile) of peace during the OF Mass?

13. Demand the entire Church, its Bishops and the priests under Her / his authority stop the never-ending and impromptu modifications to the Sacred Liturgy and say the same OF Mass, the same way at every parish in the world, just like the now-EF Latin Mass is said?

14. Demand the suppression from active ministry any priest or religious not Faithful to Church Teaching to prevent scandal among us Faithful - especially children?

15. Demand the Bishop's and those under their authority support other Catholic's - religious or lay - who teach and preach on the Moral Laws of Christ and his Church, whether or not the liberal-minded Faithful like what they hear or not?

16. Demand the Faithful who object to #15 either shut-up and sit down or leave the Church?

17. Demand of himself and the Church he/they stop trying to make friends with the world - for it will never happen except with the continual and never-ending Crucifixion and/or destruction of the Church, Her Doctrine and Christ's Moral Laws?

18. Demand of himself the acceptance that HE IS THE POPE and not some CEO of some international corporation, responsible to the whims, wishes and machinations of the Board of Directors or the shareholders?

19. Demand that Belgian Bishop Bonny of Antwerp, who caused scandal and confusion to the Faithful by publicly and authoritatively preaching and promoting practice/doctrine/dogma that is against the Magesterium and the Catholic Faith, publicly recant and offer public penance in reparation for his errors?

     <sigh> ... <SIGH> ... <sigh> ...  <SIGH> ... <sigh>

A Bishop Demands Sin Be Accepted...

I FULLY EXPECT A CENSURE TO BE ANNOUNCED BY POPE FRANCIS AGAINST THIS BISHOP ON MONDAY. OR TUESDAY AT THE LATEST. MAYBE Thursday for sure. If he isn't traveling, that is. If he is, then it has to come on friday, no? no? help? please?? <sigh>

 From Catholic Conclave:

Bishop demands church recognition of homosexual relationships

Bonny with two stealth priestesses

The Bishop of Antwerp, Johan Bonny advocates an ecclesiastical recognition of homosexual relationships. The dogma that the Catholic Church can only accept male-female relationships, he put in question in an interview with this newspaper. "There should be a diversity of recognition forms."

Last Thoughts of a Fallen Away Catholic - Ernest Miller, C.S.S.R.

I've added a new page to the banner that contains an article - Last Thoughts of a Fallen Away Catholic - written more than 3 decades ago but that remains, in my opinion, a very compelling and timely one to this day. I don't remember where I obtained it, but regardless, I recently came across it again and thought it needed a voice. I can only assume that the priest who wrote the preamble was convinced of the articles' Truth - spiritual, moral and temporal. If anyone should find otherwise, please let me know...

I researched the title on Google, but could find no other authoritative documentation or links for the title. My research - if correct - found that the author, Ernest F. Miller, was a Redemptorist priest, a mission and retreat preacher and came from a large family of religious vocations (see the obit for his sibling, Sr. Mary Margaret Miller, at the bottom of this page) and is buried in Missouri (see here and here.).

The article certainly parallels the current "communion for divorced and re-married" meme currently being played out in Rome and the media, and lays bare the underlying reality of the situation: adultery with the second "spouse" while the first spouse still lives. Divorce attempts to beautify a second marriage, as the first-person writer alludes to in the article. However, it only belies the reality that that beauty has been unjustly stolen from its rightful owners - the first marriages and spouses. D
espite the "official" push for change (doctrinaly or otherwise) by the very people who are charged with defending marriage (and its beauty), it will hopefully remain yet another "October-surprise" lesson in futility. We'll just have to wait and see...

You will note at the top of the title page that this particular copy was from a "Salve Regina Magazine", of which I could find no other information. Regardless, I defer any copyright, if such exists, to its rightful owners and also give full credit to whoever sent me the article.

Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena

Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena (ULRA)

St. Philomena

From the ULRA Homepage:

"The aim of the Living Rosary is to ask God, through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, for the conservation of the Faith in Catholiccountries, the conversion of sinners, the strengthening of the just, and the exaltation of the Holy Church.

The people who join together for this pious exercise, divide among themselves the recitation of the prayers of the entire Rosary, and divide into groups of 15, in honor of the 15 principal mysteries of our redemption. Their intention is to form, by the union of their hearts, as so many living rosaries which unceasingly recall to the Celestial Father the sign of salvation manifested to St. Dominic by the Mother of Mercies.

After Our Lady of the Rosary, the Association recognizes and honors as its mediatrix before God, the illustrious Virgin and Martyr, St. Philomena, named by the Sovereign Pontiff, protectress of the Living Rosary." - Venerable Pauline Marie Jaricot

A HOLY AND BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL...

This Day, the Twenty-Fifth Day of December

In the year, from the creation of the world, when in the beginning God created Heaven and Earth, five, thousand, one hundred and ninety-nine; from the flood, two thousand, nine hundred and fifty-seven; from the birth of Abraham, two thousand and fifteen; from Moses and the coming of the Israelites out of Egypt, one thousand, five hundred and ten; from the anointing of King David, one thousand and thirty-two; in the sixty-fifth week, according to the prophecy of Daniel; in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad; in the year seven hundred and fifty-two from the founding of the city of Rome; in the forty-second year of the empire of Octavian Augustus, when the whole earth was at peace, in the sixth age of the world, Jesus Christ, eternal God, and Son of the eternal Father, desirous to sanctify the world by His most merciful coming, having been conceived of the Holy Ghost, and nine months having elapsed since his conception, is born in Bethlehem of Juda, having become man of the Virgin Mary.

"Blessed art Thou, Oh! new-born Savior, who hast descended from on high to teach me the ways of justice, hast become man and equal to me. In return for this goodness of Thine, I renounce all evil, all sinful desires, words, and deeds. In return for Thy love, I will ever uproot from my heart all carnal desires, and always live soberly, justly, and godly; do Thou by Thy grace, strengthen me in this resolve." (Rev. Fr. Leonard Goffine's The Church's Year for Christmas Day)

REPOST: Divorce, October Baby and Choosing Forgiveness

Forgiveness...

It is an integral part of our Catholic Faith and one not easily forgotten, especially when one remembers that its defining moment came from the lips of Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.  As He hung in agony upon the "infamous gibbet" , the first of His Last Seven Words: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do..." were directed not only at His executioners, but at all of us as well. They are words not easily forgotten or ignored, though many do and have done so. But those that willingly choose to, do so at their own peril, for Our Lord also said:
  • But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences. Matthew 6:15
  • But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father that is in heaven, forgive you your sins. Mark 11:26
  • And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man; that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:25
There can be no clearer meaning than this: any who wish to enjoy the Beatific Vision, must choose forgiveness!  If we expect to be forgiven by Christ, we must first be able to forgive all others who have injured us! If we expect to enjoy the peace, contentment and Graces that come from receiving the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we must first go and reconcile ourselves with those who have injured us! Nothing can be more plainly stated nor understood than those words of Our Lord: FORGIVE!

Lack of forgiveness is nowhere more apparent than with those suffering the tragedy divorce. And of those intimately involved, it is upon the children that it has the more far reaching effects. Effects that will follow them well into their adult lives and that have the capacity to permeate, infect and kill any future relationships. If a child (and I speak here of older teen children) cannot forgive a Parent for words and /or actions that damaged a Parent-Child relationship, how could they ever hope to forgive:

  •  a best friend, for dumping their friendship in favor of a more popular "friend"
  •  a boy friend, for going out with friends that did not include her
  •  a fiance, for letting emotions get the best of him at the office party and kiss a female co-worker he is not engaged to
  • a wife, whose anger at her husband drives her to neglect her housework
  • a husband, who is so distraught over his wife's anger that he succumbs to adultery
Lack of forgiveness kills more than relationships - it has the capacity to kill one's immortal Soul, if left unattended to fester and to turn to bitterness. One has only to remember the words of Our Lord Himself as testimony that this possibility does exist.

Which is why it so very hard for Parents to see their children make choices that the Parents know will not be in their best interests, but that they can do nothing about. Forgiveness requires an act of the Will, a conscious decision to choose good over evil and no parent can force that decision upon an older child (though that is precisely what is needed.) The only recourse Parents have is prayer and sacrifice - and a continuance of the non-reciprocal Love of which their child (or children) is in dire need of. It may not happen within their lifetime (which is another Cross lovingly borne for the greater good of the beloved, whether child or the Christ-Child), but they hope that it will. The consequences suffered by the children if parental estrangement is left unresolved is almost beyond description.

I wrote the following post on forgiveness this past June, that was wrapped within the themes of the movie "October Baby". A recent experience of mine has highlighted just how serious is this matter of forgiveness, and just as serious is the hard reality that the wrong choice may already have been made by those I love. [Ed.]

                                      *******************************

Divorce hurts. It also scars, destroys and betrays - especially the children. No matter their age, they find themselves thrust into the center of a maelstrom they simply haven't the maturity to understand, let alone cope with. Hell, most parents haven't the maturity to understand fully the looming disaster that they themselves have unleashed, so how can they expect their kids to?

The above statements are a Truth of this particular divorce, and no part more so than the continual lack of forgiveness being retained after four years by those most devastated. It is and remains "...the gift that keeps on giving".  But it's time this particular gift is returned, for despite my counsels, it has become a burden to those I continue to Love and miss dearly and remains a source of almost constant sorrow.  Forgiveness, being an integral part of Catholicism taught by Christ Himself from the Cross, has had no part in this divorce and, in my opinion, has no part in any divorce, as divorce and the requisite hardness between spouses and children is the anti-thesis to all that Our Lord has taught. Divorce should have no part in any solution to any Catholic Marriage experiencing trouble - period. If I had my way, any Catholic spouse who filed for divorce would be told to get back together or face Ecclesiastical wrath (oh...wait. That's already part of Canon Law, isn't it. ISN'T IT??)

I've not seen too many movies that I can point to that upholds Catholic teaching. I've seen fewer still that parallels to my present situation enough that it brings tears to my eyes from the shear weight of its message. One film that does both is 2011's October Baby, a remarkable pro-life film starring and written for Rachel Hendrix, that is so powerful - and beautiful - it will leave you at the end with more tissues on the coffee table than remains in the box. From the actors to the musical score, it left me no where untouched, especially as she confronts the first realizations of her remarkable birth and adoption - after a failed abortion that her adoptive parents kept secret from her. It will - or should - leave you with misty eyes as Rachel's character, Hannah, seeking answers to her hidden life, is suddenly hit full force with the realization of her birth, after talking with the nurse who knew her birth Mother. It doesn't get any easier on her, as she gets Cross after Cross thrust upon her, consoled only by her childhood friend Jason, played by actor Jason Burkey

Her answers - and understanding - comes at the hands of a Catholic priest, in a Cathedral that Hannah's adoptive Mother sometimes visited, and to which Hannah herself eventually goes, seeking the answers she has yet to find. The whole scene is moving and poignant and requires from the viewer just what the priest did - to simply set, watch and listen. First to Hannah and then the priest:

You can see the moment of Hannah's understanding, the moment the slight nod indicates the acknowledgement of the burden she has carried - hatred - all these years. A bit later in the movie, her first tentative steps to forgiving are made with her Father as he weeps over his mistakes - and she stops him with "Dad...I Love you and its OK". She has found the answer that has eluded her...forgiveness. It is the same answer I desire that my own children find, especially those most affected by this travesty.

Hatred is not a factor per se in this divorce, but lack of forgiveness is and it has the capacity to harden further hearts that need to forgive in order to heal - and to Love. As I stated above, and mentioned to more than one of my children, it is a burden none of them need no longer carry. It's time to let it go, for the reason for its existence has long been disproved. They are all teenagers and above, and while not all are unforgiving, even if there is one, it is one too many. It was relationship issues for the most part that have separated us; it is sheer willpower that now keeps the separation alive; it is fear of pain that prevents us talking; it is reluctance to choose forgiveness that prevents healing. They are all Children of Mary by Baptism and She will correct matters eventually, I know. For some it will be hard; for others easy. For all, refreshing.

Dear Catholic Spouses: don't do what you are thinking about. It is not worth the pain and suffering that is caused to the children you supposedly Love. Divorce solves and settles nothing. I am living it and speak from experience.  You haven't a clue as to what you are doing, what effect this will have on you and your spouse but more importantly your children. Wikipedia can't tell you the deepest secrets of the HELL you will be going through. You can have no pre-preparation to spare you pain. You will have no safety net. No safe harbor. No surety. The only surety you will have is a broken home, broken lives, broken trust, broken dreams. You won't be able to get any of it back, either. Once you accept that divorce is the answer to your woes, the devil has already won. He will leave you to fend for yourself and go find another more fruitful and voluptuous family to destroy.

On the other hand, in your deepest, darkest misery; in the farthest recess of your shattered dreams of a happy marriage; in your subjective notion that your marriage is over; in the fear you see in the faces of your children...there are Two who will never leave you; Two who will never turn Their backs on you; Two who will forever keep Their Hearts open to you; Two who will offer solace, comfort and reconciliation. Fly now! Fly to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary and beseech Their intercession, if not for yourselves, then for your children. Save your marriage! and in the process your Souls and those of your Children. Fight for your marriage! and fight for your Spouse and Family! Do not let the Deceiver win!!

I Have Discovered the Cure for Divorce...

It came to me in a Eureka! moment that had previously been lost within the silly notion that I must maintain a good paying job to support my family. I mean, that is a moral prerogative as much a secular one, correct? No one can hope to support a family without a good paying job, correct? No one would should ever get married unless they have the mental capacity to understand this, correct?

So...that is what I did, albeit in as many steps as we had babies over the years. So it took awhile and we still had money troubles (shortages?) for obviously there is never enough when you have stair-step kids. But we managed over the years through family and friend donations (and WIC, for awhile). Life was hard, but then we weren't promised happiness here, were we? Then, perhaps unwittingly, I made what turned out to be (in one sense only) one of the biggest mistakes of my life...

I agreed to move to Kansas, a very good state to live in despite the promotion of Kathleen Sibelius to D.C. and her part in the ObamaCare debacle (don't hold that against us).  I accepted a job that paid a good hourly wage and where the overtime and production bonuses gradually increased my gross wages. A promotion to the office increased my overtime and, now-sales bonus, to the point were I found myself in the yearly salary range that one finds on an online form that asks demographic information about you: $75-$85,000!

Whooo! Aahhh!  I had become a millionaire! I had hit the big time! Our money troubles were over!

Uh...oh...wait. a. minute. Wait just a gol-darn minute...I still got's 10 kids, a wife and a mortgage to support!

Ah, shucks. Exhilaration over. Fortunately, we continued our struggle.

But...unfortunately for me, 10 years down the road making that much money was to be my doom. When my former/ex-spouse (Dear Lord, how I hate those terms!) initiated her divorce, that is what all of the support obligations were based upon - my Gross Salary. Not the Net salary, mind (which was only about $18.33/month), but the Gross. I found myself obligated to paying spouse and children less money than equaled the normal monthly expenses of our home, but also far more than what I could afford to pay. Now-separate expenses of apartment rent, food, gas, insurance, haircuts, previous financial obligations, the necessary funds for activities during visitations...well, you can take it to its logical conclusion and understand that there was almost every month a negative amount in my ability to pay fully what was required. And, its only gotten worse since (but that's for another post, perhaps...)

So, what do you do? What is the solution? Listen up, now...

In order to prevent an un-wanted, unnecessary and imprudent divorce, I highly recommend that you never -EVER! - accept employment that pays much more than what is at the lowest income level you can maintain that prevents eviction and starvation for your family. If you subscribe to this theory in practice voluntarily, it will prevent you from having to do so involuntarily, should the unthinkable happen. Now you should, of course, be truthful, honest and open to your betrothed/spouse that this is your intention and ask her/him if she/he can live that way. And tell them why...be transparent as air about it. Leave no question unanswered. Lay it all on the table with one roll of the dice. Far better to find out now the limit of your intended's love, than after it is sorta/maybe too late (if your're already married, its too late, just so you know.)

So...if you're both in agreement now, read on.

According to the 2013 US Census, the median US income for 2009-2013 was $53,046.00. But wait! In the state of Kansas where I live, it was only $51,332...a much better figure for sure when a divorce attorney starts totaling up the dollars he/she, your spouse, and the court will take from you. So be sure and look at the median income for your state before you go looking for a job. Take the lowest of the two figures and seek out a job that limits your potential for advancement in salary, bonus and overtime to at or near those levels (McDonalds, anyone??) By doing so, you will ensure a long and stable marriage, for neither one of you will truly be able to afford a divorce. Assuming, that is, that you have more than the average 2.51 persons per household in Kansas (or the 2.63 in the US). And you probably will, unless you use contraception (or NFP outside its accepted grave reasons.) This is the required action that will ensure that kids remain in a two-biological-parent home. The one event that may force two spouses to settle their fully reconcilable differences or face the surety of a decimated family, obliterated parent-child relationships and the sacrificing of your children's happiness upon the altar of personal self-fulfillment (AKA: personal happiness).

So, there you have it. The cure-all for divorce. The negation of the need for the 2015 Family Synod. The solution needed to preserve marriages and families:

VOLUNTARY POVERTY!

All I have to do now is figure out a way to market the darn thing...

MY ANSWERS TO THE HOLY FATHER'S "I AM NOT AFRAID" COMMENT...

From an interview of the Holy Father by La Nación, posted on Rorate Caeli here, I give my reply to his reply of:

- "...I am not afraid." (Pope Francis)

- Afraid of what? (La Nación)

In the case of divorcees who have remarried, we posed the question, what do we do with them? [YOU CAN TELL THEM TO GO BACK TO THEIR FIRST MARRIAGES AND STOP LIVING IN MORTAL SIN, WHICH WILL SEND THEM TO HELL IF THEY DIE UNREPENTANT] What door can we allow them to open? [THE CONFESSIONAL DOOR] This was a pastoral concern: will we allow them to go to Communion? [YES, AFTER THEY DO WHAT THE REST OF US SINNERS DO - CONFESS OUR SINS TO A PRIEST] Communion alone is no solution. [CORRECT -THE SOLUTION IS EXAMINATION, CONFESSION, CONTRITION AND THEN COMMUNION] The solution is integration [NO IT IS NOT. SEE ABOVE.]
- Afraid of following this trail, the road of the synod. [WELL, YOU SHOULD BE BECAUSE OF THE DOOR YOU'LL BE OPENING TO NEGATE OTHER SINS] I am not afraid because it is the road that God has asked us to follow. [REALLY, YOUR HOLINESS? I THOUGHT HE WANTED US TO FOLLOW HIS PATH TO HOLINESS, WHICH REQUIRES US TO FORGO SINNING.] More so, the Pope is the ultimate guarantor, the Pope is there to care for the process. We must move forward. In my last address I said something interesting, [WHAT?] I pointed out that we had not addressed any part of the doctrine of the Church concerning marriage. [GOOD] In the case of divorcees who have remarried, we posed the question, what do we do with them? [SHOW THEM THE DOOR...] What door can we allow them to open? [...THE CONFESSIONAL DOOR] This was a pastoral concern: will we allow them to go to Communion? [NO, BEFORE CONFESSION and YES, AFTER CONFESSION] Communion alone is no solution. [YES!! SOUND CATHOLIC TEACHING!!] The solution is integration. [WHAA? UH, ONLY AFTER CONFESSION] They have not been excommunicated, true. But they cannot be godfathers to any child being baptized, mass readings are not for divorcees, they cannot give communion, they cannot teach Sunday school, there are about seven things that they cannot do, [AND THIS IS THE CHURCHES PROBLEM? SEEMS TO ME IT'S THE PROBLEM OF THE SINNER TO CORRECT THE "I CAN'T DO THIS or THAT... MEME"] I have the list over there. Come on! If I disclose any of this it will seem that they have been excommunicated in fact! [NO...THEY'RE JUST DENIED COMMUNION IN FACT, UNTIL THEY ARE WORTHY TO RECEIVE HIM] Thus, let us open the doors a bit more. [UH...JUST HOW HARD ARE CONFESSIONAL DOORS TO OPEN? BUT... I SUPPOSE IF WALMART HAS GREETERS...] Why cant they be godfathers and godmothers? [BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PRACTICING THEIR FAITH PROPERLY] "No, no, no, what testimony will they be giving their godson?". [NONE. BECAUSE THEY CAN'T OF THEIR OWN VOLITION]; The testimony of a man and a woman saying "my dear, I made a mistake [EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE], I was wrong here, [CONTRITION FOR THE SIN] but I believe our Lord loves me, I want to follow God, [SINCERITY] I was not defeated by sin, I want to move on [FIRM AMENDMENT TO SIN NO MORE]". Anything more Christian than that? [NOPE. THEY'RE THE BASIC BUILDING BLOCKS OF A GOOD CONFESSION] And what if one of the political crooks among us, corrupt people, ate chosen to be somebody´s godfather. [IF ITS A PUBLIC SIN, THEN THEY SHOULD BE DENIED THE PRIVILEGE ALSO] If they are properly wedded by the Church, would we accept them? [SURE. AFTER PROPERLY DISPOSING THEMSELVES] What kind of testimony will they give to their godson? [NONE, UNLESS THEY CHANGE] A testimony of corruption? Things need to change, our standards need to change. [NO, THEY DON'T. IT'S NOT THE STANDARDS THAT NEED TO CHANGE, HOLY FATHER.  IT. IS. WE. WHO. NEED. TO. CHANGE. TO REPENT. TO CONFESS. OUR SINS! DO NOT MAKE IT MORE EASY TO STAY IN SIN! IT IS ALREADY SO VERY EASY TO GET OUT OF SIN, WHY NOT JUST PROMOTE THAT?]

FEAST of the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

His Holiness Ven. Pope Pius IX
King of Rome(1846 – 1878)

From piustheninth.com:

POPE PIUS IX PROCLAIMS THE DOGMA OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

On December 8, 1854, having spent all of his holy life – his boyhood, his priesthood, as bishop, cardinal and Pope – at the feet of the Mother of God, the most Blessed Virgin Mary, and having deeply considered also, in his exile at Gaeta, the earnest petitions of Catholics all over the world in its behalf, Pope Pius IX defined ex cathedra, in the glorious Basilica of Saint Peter's before one hundred and seventy bishops and innumerable pilgrims come literally from the ends of the earth, the divine dogma of Our Lady's Immaculate Conception. The voice of the Sovereign Pontiff broke and tears filled his eyes as he paused before uttering the infallible words:

"We declare, pronounce and define that the doctrine which holds that the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the first instant of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace of the Omnipotent God, in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind, was preserved immaculate from all stain of original sin, has been revealed by God, and therefore should firmly and constantly be believed by all the faithful...."

As the Holy Father finished speaking, the cannon of the Castle of Sant' Angelo boomed and the bells of the basilicas and churches of Rome long rang out the glorious news, which ushered in the Age of Mary – the last age of the world. The Catholic faithful rejoiced, and grace flooded their souls as they prayed the prayer Our Lady herself had given twenty years before to Catherine Laboure, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."

Consecration to the Immaculate Conception

In the presence of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, and with heaven and earth as our witness, we prostrate ourselves at thy feet, O Mary, Our Lady.

We acknowledge Thee as our Mother, as the Immaculate Conception, living tabernacle of the Divinity, as Queen of angels and of men, as Mother of the Church and of the Catholic priesthood, and as refuge of the afflicted. That is why, small and weak that we are, we wish to consecrate to Thee our Institute, our families, our persons, our works, our future, all that pertains to us and is in us, and which God, in His immeasurable goodness, has entrusted to us for our good use.

We also consecrate to Thee the value of our good actions, past, present, and future, leaving to Thee the entire and full right of disposing of us and all that belongs to us. Mary, be our Mother; sanctify us, purify us, correct us, guide us, pray for us and protect us.

Help us to perfectly fulfill the duties of our state of life. Extinguish in us all self-love, which prevents Thy Divine Son, King and Sovereign Priest, from reigning in and around us.

Cover abundantly with thy maternal protection all the parishes, chapels, schools, works and missions entrusted to the Institute, and mayest Thou forever impede the devil from reigning, in any manner, in this Institute which desires to be entirely Thine for the greater glory of God, the exaltation of our Mother the Holy Catholic Church, and for the conversion of sinners. Amen.

The Assurance of Salvation by Pope Francis

"All of us will be up there together, all of us!"

So...I read in the above headline that it is no longer necessary for me to pay too much attention to how I live. I can pretty much do what I want, revert back to my 60's radical self - "it's all about me" and "I'd like to teach the world to sing" and "this is the dawning of the age of Aquarius". All dogs go to heaven and all that, don'tcha ya know. I don't know how I could have believed all that "Crypto-Lefebvrian" babble. I thought I was someone special, that I needed to pray, fast, give alms, be charitable, Love Christ, pray to Our Lady, Love my brother, "...etcetera, etcetera, etcetera..." (as Yul Brynner said in one of his most famous movie roles.) My whole life has just been reduced to an "etcetera". <sigh> But, the good side is:

I'M GONG TO HEAVEN! YEAH!!! MY SALVATION IS ASSURED!!! YEAH!!!!! NO MORE NEED FOR CONFESSION!!! TRIPLE YEAH!!!!

Ah...but wait! Au contraire, Mon Ami.

What do we do about these nasty, unkind and - let's face it - uncharitable words spoken by Our Lord Jesus Christ, as written by His friends, the Apostles - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - who heard them from Our Lord's own lips:

Matthew 7:13
Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.
Matthew 20:16
So shall the last be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.

Matthew 19:24
And again I say to you: It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mark 10:25
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Luke 18:25
For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day.

John 6:66
And he said: Therefore did I say to you, that no man can come to me, unless it be given him by my Father.

Matthew 5:20
For I tell you, that unless your justice abound more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3
And said: Amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:23
Then Jesus said to his disciples: Amen, I say to you, that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 6:1
Take heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward of your Father who is in heaven.

I am confused...which one of the two is right?

Do I believe the Son of God? The Redeemer of Mankind? The Way, The Truth, The Life?

Or do I believe His Vicar on Earth, a mere mortal like myself, capable of sin and error, stained with original sin, who only is free from error when he speaks ex cathedra, but at all other times is fully capable of errors in thought, word and action?

Prayer for the Pope

From A Catholic Prayer Book

V. Let us pray for N., the Pope.

R. May the Lord preserve him, give him a long life, make him blessed upon the earth, and may the Lord not hand him over to the power of his enemies.

V. May your hand be upon your holy servant.

R. And upon your son whom you have anointed.

Let us pray. O God, the Pastor and Ruler of all the faithful, look down, in your mercy, upon your servant, N., whom you have appointed to preside over your Church; and grant, we beseech you, that both by word and example, he may edify all those under his charge; so that, with the flock entrusted to him, he may arrive at length unto life everlasting. Through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.
